There are millions of videos on the internet right now. How are you going to make yours stand out?
Don’t let the challenge of creating memorable, quality videos intimidate you. It’s obvious people are hungry for video. Recent studies found that more than 50% of consumers want to watch videos from brands they support. That’s encouraging - you likely already have an audience! Another report found that 85% of millennials have purchased a product after they engaged with a video online.
No matter your business goals, video can help you accomplish them. Follow these four steps to get started:
● Define your strategy - This step is where you’re going to spend most of your time. How are you going to deliver your video? Do you want to post it on social media, send it through emails, or present it live? Once you decide the platform, the options are endless. Create a behind-the-scenes of your company to showcase the culture and environment. Interview your CEO about the foundation of the business. Bring in an expert to give insight into a topic. Show off your product with a demonstration. Deliver a webinar or video conference. Repurpose that webinar by editing shorter snippets that showcase your employees as experts. Create training videos for new employees. The goal with video (and any content) is to deliver value. If you don’t take the time to find the value in your video, you risk your message getting lost.
● Find your niche - Have you heard the saying, “The riches are in the niches?” It might be true for your business and it’s definitely true for your video content. Because video has already saturated the market, it’s going to be hard to get a lot of attention on a video that’s already been created by dozens of other companies. For example, it would be almost impossible to get more views than “Baby Shark,” one of the most viewed videos on YouTube. But if you focus your efforts on “How to do the baby shark dance,” you probably have a better chance of reaching your intended audience. (Sorry if you now have Baby Shark stuck in your head.) Silly songs aside, focusing on what differentiates your business will help your message cut through the competition.
● Tell your story - Who is the best storyteller you know? Do you have someone you love listening to because of how they deliver their stories? You can bring that same sense of storytelling to your videos. The key is to focus on authenticity. Give people a glimpse of what drives your business or the people who make up your business. Authenticity drives connection, and when you connect with your audience you leave an impression.
● Grab attention - If your video doesn’t look interesting, it’s going to be hard to get people to pay attention. Make your video a must-watch by using an interesting image as a thumbnail or a catchy headline with a tease that’s revealed in the video. It’s important that your video gets the message across with the sound off. Up to 85% of people watch Facebook videos on mute. Hype videos are also attention-grabbing and can get consumers excited about what your business has to offer.
The opportunities for videos are endless and present a chance for you to Create your news.
